Adding a YouTube video through Kaltura for captioning

You can use Kaltura in Canvas to caption YouTube videos. This guide will help walk you through that process using images.

The first step is to navigate to the page with the YouTube embedded video or to the page where you want to embed a YouTube video, and click Edit. In this case, a YouTube video was already embedded on a page. We can get it into our system for captioning.

Copy the original link (URL) from YouTube (or, if you have the link already copied, go to the next step).

Next, click on the Plug In button in the editor and select Embed Kaltura Media.

Select YouTube from the list.

In the window that pops up, first paste in the YouTube URL, then click on Save and Embed.

This will take you back to the original page that you are editing and you can delete the YouTube embedded video that was there before. If there wasn’t one, just save the page.

You can now add captions by following Kaltura’s guide or looking into SLCC’s captioning services.
