Work Authorization Letter (OnCampus)

What Is It?

The Work Authorization Letter (On-Campus) service allows eligible F-1 students to request an official employment authorization letter from International Student Services (ISS) for on-campus employment.

This letter is typically required when applying for a Social Security Number (SSN) and serves as confirmation that the student has received an on-campus employment offer from an SLCC department.

International Student Services will review the student's eligibility, verify enrollment and immigration requirements, and issue a signed Work Authorization Letter if approved.

Typical processing time is 3–5 business days.

Who or What is Eligible?

You may be eligible for a Work Authorization Letter if you:

  • Are maintaining valid F-1 student status.
  • Have received an offer for on-campus employment.
  • Are enrolled full-time at SLCC.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Have a valid SEVIS record for the current semester.

International Student Services will verify eligibility before issuing the letter.

How Do I Make a Request or Report an Issue?

Before submitting your request:

  1. Obtain an official Job Offer Letter from the hiring department.
  2. Gather the employment information requested in this form.
  3. Submit your request and upload the required documentation.

Required Information:

  • Position Title
  • Hiring Department or Office
  • Campus Name
  • Campus Address
  • Proposed Work Start Date

Required Documentation:

  • On-Campus Job Offer Letter (PDF)

After your request is submitted, ISS will review your eligibility and employment information. If approved, a signed Work Authorization Letter will be issued and provided through the service portal.

The Work Authorization Letter may be used, together with other required immigration documents, when applying for a Social Security Number (SSN).
