Health Insurance Waiver Request


What Is It?


The Health Insurance Waiver Request service allows international students to request an exemption from the SLCC international student health insurance requirement.

Students who have private health insurance coverage may be eligible for a waiver if their policy provides coverage that is comparable to the coverage required by SLCC.

International Student Services (ISS) will review the submitted insurance documentation and determine whether the waiver request can be approved.

Typical processing time is 5–7 business days.

Who or What is Eligible?


This service is intended for international students who:

  • Have active private health insurance coverage.
  • Are covered under a parent’s or spouse’s health insurance plan.
  • Receive insurance coverage through a sponsoring agency or government.
  • Have purchased a private health insurance policy independently.
  • Wish to request an exemption from the SLCC international student health insurance plan.

Approval is not guaranteed. All waiver requests are reviewed individually based on the coverage provided.

How Do I Make a Request or Report an Issue?


To request a Health Insurance Waiver:

  1. Complete and submit this request form.
  2. Provide information about your health insurance coverage.
  3. Select the option that best describes your insurance source.
  4. Upload a copy of your insurance card or policy documentation.

Required Information:

  • Insurance Company Name
  • Policy Number
  • Coverage Start Date
  • Coverage End Date

Required Documentation:

  • Insurance Card
  • Insurance Policy Documentation (if available)

ISS will review the submitted information and compare the coverage against SLCC insurance requirements before making a decision.


When Not to Use These Services

Do not use this service if:

  • You do not currently have health insurance coverage.
  • You are enrolling in the SLCC international student insurance plan.
  • You are requesting assistance with insurance claims or medical billing.
  • You need information about the benefits available through the SLCC insurance plan.

If you do not have alternative insurance coverage, you should enroll in the health insurance plan required by SLCC.
