F-1 Status Reinstatement Request

What Is It?

The Reinstatement Request service is available for F-1 students who believe they may have violated their immigration status and need assistance understanding their options for returning to valid F-1 status.

Each reinstatement case is unique and requires an individual review by International Student Services (ISS). An ISS advisor will evaluate your situation, explain the reinstatement process, and identify the documentation required for your specific case.

Submitting this request does not automatically reinstate your F-1 status.

Who or What is Eligible?

This service is intended for international students who:

  • Believe they may have violated their F-1 status.
  • Have received communication indicating a potential status issue.
  • Have questions regarding reinstatement eligibility.
  • Need guidance regarding the reinstatement process.

If you are unsure whether you have violated your status, you may still submit this request for assistance.

How Do I Make a Request or Report an Issue?

To request reinstatement assistance:

  1. Complete and submit this request form.
  2. Provide a brief explanation of your situation and why you believe you may need reinstatement assistance.
  3. Include any relevant information regarding your academic or immigration circumstances.
  4. Upload supporting documents if available (optional).

Examples of helpful supporting documents include:

  • Immigration-related communications
  • Academic records
  • Advisor communications
  • Previous ISS correspondence

After your request is submitted, an ISS advisor will review your information and contact you with the next steps.

How Much Does It Cost?

Provide brief information if any of these services come with a cost. Example: Most software is free to staff and faculty, but there may be additional charges based on licensing. That information will be in the service offering forms.

When Not to Use These Services

Do not use this service if:

  • You are requesting CPT authorization.
  • You are requesting OPT authorization.
  • You need a Travel Signature.
  • You need a Reduced Course Load (RCL).
  • You are requesting a Transfer Out.
