Description
This KB gives instructions on how to find and use your BitLocker Recovery Key using another device, such as a mobile phone, tablet, or another computer. This may be needed if your SLCC Windows device is locked and asking for a BitLocker Recovery Key before Windows will continue loading.
Criteria
The following items are needed to retrieve your BitLocker Recovery Key:
- Another device with internet access, such as a phone, tablet, or another computer.
- Your SLCC email address and password.
- Access to the locked computer so you can compare the BitLocker Key ID.
How to Find and Use Your BitLocker Recovery Key
To find and use your BitLocker Recovery Key, please follow the steps below.
Step 1: Sign In to Your Account
- On another device, go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com.
- Sign in using your SLCC email address and password.
- You may be prompted to Authenticate.
Step 2: Go to Devices
- Select Devices from the menu.

- A list of your registered devices will appear.
Step 3: Select Your Locked Device
- Find the Windows device that matches your locked computer.
- Select the device name to open the device details.

Step 4: View BitLocker Keys
- On the device details page, select View BitLocker Keys.

Step 5: Show the Recovery Key
- Select Show recovery key.
- The BitLocker Recovery Key will display on the screen.

Step 6: Enter the Recovery Key
- Enter the BitLocker Recovery Key exactly as shown.
- Press Enter.
- Your computer should unlock and continue loading Windows.
Important Tips
- The recovery key is long. Enter it carefully.
- Do not share your recovery key with others.
- If the key does not work, double-check that the Key ID matches.
