FLAC stands for Faculty Load and Compensation. It is a compilation of Banner forms that reference each other to create teaching contracts based on faculty workload (hours worked) rather than contact hours. The contracts are accessed through the Employee Dashboard on MySLCC (MySLCC/FLAC). Like Microsoft Office SharePoint and Teams, where SharePoint is the database and Teams is the easy-to-read front end, for our contract system, FLAC (Banner) is the database. Both FLAC and the FLAC dashboard in MySLCC are necessary for the creation and processing of the new contracts.
SLCC has decided to move to this system for creating contracts for the following benefits:
-
Rather than depending on the Scheduling Office, FLAC allows departments to have control in making or changing instructor assignments. It is not required for Departments to assign classes to instructors and they may continue to utilize the Scheduling Office to do that. It is imperative that the instructor assignments are entered into Banner soon after the assignments are made so students have access to this information sooner rather than later. If your department can’t assign instructors to courses in Banner almost immediately upon making assignments, the Scheduling Office should be utilized to assist.
-
We are now able to pay adjuncts sooner for the time they’ve worked. This means that Fall & Spring contracts will be paid over 9 pay periods (rather than 8 under the previous contract system) and Summer will be paid over 6 pay periods (rather than 5). This does mean that instructors will be paid sooner after the start of the semester, they will be paid the same amount as they were under the shorter pay periods, but their paychecks will be smaller than they were before.
