What happened?
At 1:17 PM MST, Microsoft identified an issue with their email services that was affecting North America. This interruption affected SLCC by delaying incoming emails from outside sources(gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.) but did not affect internal emails coming from SLCC or Bruinmail accounts. It also affected functions on other products from Microsoft such as the following:
Exchange Online
Microsoft 365 suite
SharePoint Online
Microsoft OneDrive
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Defender XDR
Microsoft Viva
Microsoft Purview
Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat
They identified the issue and at 6:56 PM 1/22/2026 were able to restore most services and mail flows. Microsoft Status Page
What's affected?
- External to Internal Email was delayed but messages have begun to arrive at individual mailboxes. Email and other applications should be functioning normally at the time of this update(7:27 PM 1/22/2026)
When did it start?
- Microsoft identified the issue at 1:17 PM MST on 1/22/2026
- Microsoft stated a solution was in place and working at 6:56 PM MST on 1/22/2026
What can you do?
- Internal email is working and recommended for communication even with Microsoft services restored. Please encourage all employees and students to use their internal email to communicate anything college related. If they have sent an email with information from an outside source, they should not need to resend that email.
