MFA: How to Backup & Restore Microsoft Authenticator Application

When you switch to a new device, your authenticator app (like Microsoft Authenticator) doesn't automatically transfer your MFA settings, please follow the instructions below to back up and restore your Microsoft Authenticator application.

Important: You can only backup and restore on the same device type: i.e. accounts backed up using an iOS device cannot be restored on an Android device.

  • Step 1: Backup account credentials in Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Step 2: Restore account credentials from Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Step 3: Keep your old device for couple days jus in case you need to manual restore the Microsoft Authenticator application.

If you are unable to restore your Authenticator's account credential, please use an alternative solution to re-activate the Microsoft Authenticator application.

Note:  If you lost your device or it was stolen, you will need to contact the Helpdesk 801-957-5555 for assistance.

Stay secure and make your phone transition smooth!
