This KB gives instructions on using the VIA App and Video Conferencing for Zoom and Microsoft Teams.

How to use the VIA App and Video Conferencing for Zoom and Microsoft Teams.


Follow these steps to turn on the equipment located in the room.

STEP ONE: Turning on the Video Conferencing System
Power on the room's touch screen panel and select "WD" or "PC" (Note: It may take several seconds before you see anything appear on the panel).

***NOTE: The touch panels may vary from room to room.

STEP TWO: Connect to the room with the VIA App

Installing the VIA App and the VIA Room-Device Drivers (First time only and the app may already be installed on your SLCC Windows device).

1. Type the name of the room on your browser on your device. (i.e. ROOMNAME - WD.SLCC.INT)

2. Download the VIA App and the VIA Room-Device Drivers.  **Note: on SLCC Windows devices these may already be installed.

a) To check if it is already installed type "VIA" into the search bar on your Windows device Taskbar.

3. Next, download the VIA Room-Device Drivers.

4. SLCC laptops may already have the VIA App, on your laptop search for VIA.  You will also need VIA Room-Device Drivers for video conferencing.  You can download them in the Step 3 above or from the app itself.

STEP THREE: Open the VIA App.

1. Open the app and type the room name (i.e. ROOMNAME-WD.SLCC.INT).  The room name is on the room's splash screen with the SLCC logo.

2. Type in the code that is displayed on the rooms' SLCC splash page, this number will change periodically.

3. "Click to Join"

4. Then the click "Share" button when yo are ready to wirelessly display your computer.

Using the VIA App for Zoom Meetings
Start your Zoom meeting on your device.

1. Click the "Share" button on the VIA app and start your Zoom meeting.

2. The settings for Zoom should be, VIA Microphone, VIA Speakers, and VIA Camera.  They should be selected automatically.  If not, follow these steps.

a) Click the UP arrow next to the microphone and then use the "Test speaker & microphone.
b) Make sure the speaker and microphone option is set to "Microphone (VIA Room Device) and Speakers (VIA Room Device)"
c) For your camera click the UP arrow next to the camera icon and make sure it is set to "Camera (VIA Room Device)"

3. Click the "Test speaker & microphone" option to verify audio.

4. Make sure the microphone and camera are unmuted.

Using the VIA app in Microsoft Teams
Start your Microsoft Teams meeting on your laptop.

1. Click the "Share" button on the VIA app and start your Microsoft Teams meeting.

2. Open Microsoft Teams Device Settings.

a) Microphone (VIA Room Device), Speakers (VIA Room Device), and Camera (VIA Room Device) should all be selected.

3. Next click "Join now"

If you have already started your Teams meeting, to find your sound settings in Microsoft Teams, follow these screenshots in your Microsoft Teams meeting.

Step 1

  • Click the MORE button.
  • Select Audio Settings.

Step 2

  • Make sure speakers are set to Speakers (VIA Room Device)
  • Make sure microphone is set to Microphone (VIA Room Device)

Step 3

  • Make sure the camera is set to Camera (VIA Room Device)

Post Meeting Steps
Please make sure you follow these steps once your meeting has completed by stop sharing and powering off the room's AV system with the touch panel.

1. Click the stop sharing button and then close the VIA app.

2. Next turn off the room's audio-visual equipment after you are done using the room.
