SLCC has several video-enhanced classrooms to create lecture recordings or live, online sessions for our students and faculty to better facilitate attending classes remotely when attending in person is not an option. Each of these classrooms have been equipped with both audio and video equipment that is used to assist in recording lectures or for live streaming classes for students that are attending remotely.

CONFIGURING THE STREAMING / LECTURE CAPTURE SERVICE TO USE THE CAMERA / MICROPHONE / SPEAKERS

This Knowledge Base Article provides the basic overview of the process that will be needed to attend and present classes using remote equipment. Additional information will be listed in related articles to the right as they are made available.

  1. Plug the USB and HDMI cables into your laptop.
  2. Attach the wireless mic to your clothing and turn it on.
  3. From your device, launch your streaming service of your choice. (WebEx, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Kaltura)
  4. Within your streaming service, open Settings, and select the following:
    • Camera: Aver Cam520 Pro
    • Microphone: USB Audio Device
    • Speaker: Extron HDMI

USING THE CAMERA / REMOTE

Aver 520 Pro Camera

The camera has a remote that can be used to Pan / Tilt and Zoom based on your needs. The first 3 presets have been programmed.

You can program additional presets by first moving the camera to the desired location, then hold the preset button until a "saved message" is displayed, and then select preset position button 0-9 to save (preferably, program them using Preset 4 and above).

Aver520 Remote

**Make sure you do not press the "Camera select" buttons along the top of the remote, as those are intended to switch between multiple cameras (if there were multiple cameras in a room). If you accidentally push one of these buttons, press the Camera 1 button again to get the remote working with the camera again

USING THE ROOM MICROPHONES

There are two possible microphones you may have in these rooms. The Shure and Sennheiser.

  • To turn on the Shure mic, just flip the switch on the top.
  • To turn on the Sennheiser mic, open the unit, and press the power button on the inside. *Note: The Sennheiser microphone has a switch to MUTE the mic along the top.

Once the unit is on, attach it to your clothing and pin the microphone somewhere near your collar.

Voice-lift Function: By default, the microphone will amplify your voice over the room speakers without any connection to your computer. You can disable this function by click on the "Room Mic" button on the wall panel.

**Please make sure to turn the unit off after class to avoid draining the batteries.

REQUIRED CABLES / CONNECTIONS

The classroom uses the standard HDMI-A ports (Projector) and the standard USB-A ports (Microphone and Camera). Your device will need to have ports for these connectors OR have an adapter (dongle) in order to connect to the system.

NOTE! If you have forgotten your connection cable or if you need a converter dongle/adapter (switches from one type of connector to another), you can reach out to Faculty Support.

Additionally, you can purchase cables and adapters (dongles) at the Bookstore located on the Taylorsville (ext 4049), South City (ext 3329) and Jordan (ext 2620) campus.
