How It Works

  1. 1. Submit Request
    Start by submitting a technology request when a need is identified.
  2. 2. Initial Review
    A Business Systems Analyst (BSA) reviews and helps define the request.
  3. 3. Validation
    Security and accessibility requirements are checked.
  4. 4. Routing
    The request is categorized as a small purchase, small project, or large project.
  5. 5. Review & Approval
    Larger efforts go to governance councils and possibly the governance board.
  6. 6. Portfolio Tracking
    All approved work is logged and tracked in the IT project portfolio.

Start by submitting a Technology Request Form to help IT evaluate your needs and route your request appropriately. All approved initiatives are then tracked in the SLCC IT Project Portfolio, providing transparency into active and planned technology work across the institution.

Areas & Committees at SLCC

Each group plays a role in reviewing and guiding technology decisions across the college.

Provost’s Academic and Student Council
Includes student services, academic support, Salt Lake Technical College, and related academic and student systems. This council evaluates tools and initiatives related to teaching, curriculum, student services, and the student experience.
Institutional Advancement and Executive Functions Council
Includes advancement, marketing, alumni relations, institutional effectiveness, community relations, and executive functions. This council evaluates tools supporting advancement, communications, institutional effectiveness, and executive initiatives.
Administrative Services Council
Includes business services, facilities, People and Workplace Culture, public safety, IT, sponsored projects, and related administrative functions such as finance and risk management. This council evaluates tools supporting operations, finance, facilities, workforce and safety services, grants, and new IT initiatives.
IT and Services Council
Includes IT management and operational service areas such as infrastructure, security, support, endpoint, lab, AV, and platform services. This council manages the operations and lifecycle of systems and services, evaluating support models, capacity, readiness, and service sustainability.
Governance Liaisons
Each council designates at least one liaison who serves as its representative on the Technology Governance Board and helps coordinate communication and follow-through between the council, BSAs, and IT leadership.
Technology Governance Board
Includes at least one liaison from each functional governance council. The board makes final decisions on enterprise initiatives, oversees the IT project portfolio, and reprioritizes and sequences portfolio work.

Types of Requests

Small Purchases
Quick approvals for simple tools like licenses or small software.
Small Projects
Reviewed and approved by your department’s governance council.
Large Projects
Reviewed across SLCC and approved by the governance board.
