RC activation will be rolled out from the Westpointe campus southward. The timeline of rollout phases is still being worked out, but once you receive notice of the transition in your area, you will be ported over to the new system and receive an email to activate your RC account.
You can reach out to the Help Desk
Ring Central will live within Teams and will replace the need for Jabber. We will still have Zoom.
We are transitioning campuses starting on September 15 starting at WestPoint and working our way South. OIT will be reaching out as the time for your team approaches to schedule the move to Ring Central.
Go into the RingCentral app, go to settings on the bottom left, go to Notifications and Audio, select Ringer Sources and in the drop down menu select All.
PLEASE NOTE: Your current Cisco phone will need to be replaced.
As part of the move to Ring Central we are transitioning away from desk phones and promoting the use of the Ring Central Soft Phone Capabilities. Every user that trades in their existing desk phone will receive a free USB wired headset. If you need to have a physical phone, the first year will be covered by the Office of Information Technology. Depending on the phone that you choose, there will be a $22 to $36 annual fee thereafter that will be billed to your department. You will receive another email with a link to our Preferred Phone Option site. Please go to the site and choose if you want a handset or a USB wired headset. Please submit your option by September 2, 2022. If no option is selected, you will automatically receive a USB wired headset.
If you are receiving a RingCentral handset, OIT staff will be around the day of your cutover and install your new handset then. They will take away your old handset. If you are not receiving a new handset, there will be drop-off locations around the major campuses in computer labs where you can take your phone.
The headset provided is a standard USB headset and will work with any application that uses speakers & a mic. Conversely, any standard headset, wired or wireless earbuds that work with your laptop will work with RingCentral.
If you have a Bluetooth headset you want to use with RingCentral, the short answer is YES, it will work. Bluetooth connectivity between a headset and a laptop is straight forward and will work with RingCentral or any other application on your laptop. The RingCentral handsets have a USB port that can take a Bluetooth USB adapter and can then be paired directly to the headset.
SLCC has many shared phones. If multiple people who use a shared phone respond to the Handset Selection form, multiple phones will not accidentally be ordered. We will only order one phone per extension. A shared line is an extension that shows on multiple people’s phones. RingCentral supports shared lines. There are many variations on how SLCC uses shared lines. We will configure shared lines to match what is currently being used.
