In 2022, to improve support for Apple technology in the classroom SLCC’s OIT enabled Managed Apple ID for all students and staff. These Apple IDs use the SAME user@slcc.edu or user@bruinmail.slcc.edu usernames and passwords that students and staff currently use to sign on to Adobe Creative Cloud, computers, email, Office 365, and other technology. Managed Apple IDs accounts allow for the configuration of Shared iPads. This provides a better iPad classroom experience and gives us the ability to manage access and applications.
What if I forgot my Shared iPad Passcode or Pin.
Please contact the Technical Support Helpdesk to have a reset your passcode email sent your school email address.
Are students or staff be able to use their Managed Apple ID to download Apps?
No - To maintain a focus on education, applications are approved and managed by the school, and either auto-installed or available through the SLCC Self Service application. Staff app requests can be made to with the Technology Request Form. Apple has disabled the following services for Managed Apple IDs:
• App Store purchasing
• iTunes Store purchasing
• Book Store purchasing
• HomeKit connected devices
• Apple Pay
• Find My iPhone
• Find My Mac
• Find My Friends
• iCloud Mail
• iCloud Keychain (although, keychain items are saved and restored on Shared iPad devices)
• iCloud Family Sharing
• FaceTime
• iMessage
What if I already used my @slcc.edu or @bruinmail.slcc.edu email account to create a PERSONAL Apple ID?
SLCC Managed Apple IDs belong to our college and now are separate from Apple IDs that you create for yourself. If you previously created a personal Apple ID using an @slcc.edu or @bruinmail.slcc.edu email account, you were contacted by Apple to provide a different email address to associate with your personal Apple ID content. Those notices from Apple looked something like these screenshots.
You had 60 days to provide a new personal email address before Apple changes your personal Apple ID account to a temporary ID. Any previous purchases or subscriptions you have made have been re-associated with your new personal Apple ID. Additional information can be found at the Apple Support Site: If you are asked to update your Apple ID email address.
What if I did not update my email address to my personal Apple ID?
Your Apple Account was updated with a temporary username and AppleID@apple.com notified you by email with the new temporary username on January 17, 2022. You were asked to sign in with your temporary Apple Account email address and change your Apple Account primary email address. The email looks something like this below.
Apple ID Update
Dear Bobby Bruin,
Salt Lake Community College has claimed "@slcc.edu" or @bruinmail.slcc.edu. Starting tomorrow, you will no longer be able to use "Bobby.Bruin@slcc.edu" or “bbruin@bruinmail.slcc.edu” as the email address for your Apple ID.
Choose a new email address to use as your Apple ID to resume using Apple services. To update your Apple ID, sign in with the temporary ID, "Bobby.Bruin-slcc.edu@temporary.appleid.com" or “bbruin-bruinmail.slcc.edu@temporary.appleid.com”, and your current password on your device or at appleid.apple.com.
