Setting up Multi-Factor Authentication at SLCC

As a part of Salt Lake Community College’s commitment to providing secure and reliable access to its online services, the college has adopted Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).  Student accounts were migrated late March, 2023.  Staff accounts will be completed in mid June 2023.

IMPORTANT:  We recommend you register your MFA methods prior to this date to minimize any disruption to your account.  To register, just follow the link provided under the MFA Setup Instructions heading below.

Concurrent Enrollment Note:  High school / Academy network IP address spaces will be exempted from MFA requirements.  Please contact the SLCC Help Desk if you would like to confirm your space is on our list.

Overview

MFA is an additional layer of security that helps protect your account from unauthorized access by requiring you to provide two or more pieces of evidence when signing in.

Below is a set of instructions as well as an instructional video on how to set up your MFA options at SLCC. The College offers three different options for you to use MFA with our systems

  1. Microsoft Authenticator App
  2. SMS Text / Phone call
  3. Using a FIDO2 Token Yubikey

Note: If you are already signed into your Microsoft account, you may need to sign out and log back in to complete this process.

First Time Login after MFA has been enabled

Once MFA has been enabled on your account, the next time you sign in to one of SLCC's online services (MySLCC, Canvas, Micrsoft 365, etc), you will be prompted for more information (if you haven't already registered one of MFA options) (see example prompt below).

Choose Next and you will be redirected to the Azure MFA enrollment page. There you will have the ability to set up one of the three MFA methods.

MFA Setup Instructions

Prior to MFA being required on your account (and any time after that), you can also visit My Security Info, login, and then you register or update any of these options.

Tip: For a faster, and more secure experience, we recommend using the authenticator app rather than SMS verification.
