Zoom provides a number of features to help you keep your meetings secure and confidential no matter where you are working. You can find a number of these features in your account settings to help secure your meetings before they even begin.
Before your meeting: Passcodes are required for all SLCC Zoom meetings, allowing only those with the passcode to join. To share your meeting links, use a secure method, like a directed email, meeting invitation, or link inside your Canvas course. Never share your meeting ID or passcode on social media or other online platforms or you run the risk of having your meeting compromised. You can leverage the option to “require authentication” to join if only SLCC Staff / Students will be participating in the meeting. If you plan to hold a more public meeting, we recommend you enable the meeting registration option. This requires participants to register before zoom sends meeting details to their registered email directly. |

Another good security feature is to disable “Allow participants to join anytime”. This ensures a meeting won’t start until the host is prepared. You can also assign a co-host to help you if you will be doing a larger public meeting. Your first option is to add them when you schedule the meeting. If you don't do that, you can also watch the participant list at the start of a meeting, click on “More” next to the person's name, and make them co-hosts for the meeting. Lastly, SLCC has limited webinar licenses available that can be used to secure public events. Contact the Help Desk to discuss this option. |
In-meeting Controls: Here are a few in-meeting security features you can find under the Security Icon to help you host secure meetings: |
|
The PANIC button is the “Suspend Participant Activities”, which will disable all of the above, enable a waiting room, and lock the meeting (preventing anyone from joining). |
Here are some additional online resources that you can use to find out more about these security options
