SLCC Password Complexity Requirements and Troubleshooting

This Knowledge Article outlines the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) password complexity requirements for both first-time password creation and password resets. It also includes troubleshooting steps to assist users who encounter issues during the password setup or reset process.

Description

SLCC requires the following rules when selecting your new password:

  • Must be at least 15 characters long
  • Must contain characters from at least THREE of the following categories:
    • Lower case letters
    • Capital letters
    • Numbers
    • Non-alphanumeric characters: ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/
  • Must not match your current password
  • Must not contain your username or any part of your display name
  • Must not contain common, insecure, or easily guessed phrases

Please have a secure way of storing your new password before submitting with a password manager like 1Password, LastPass, etc.


Troubleshooting

Easily Guessable Password Error

If you enter an insecure password like “password1234” into the fields, you will receive a message stating you picked an easily guessable password.

Password Does Not Meet Complexity Requirements Error
If you enter a password that does not meet the Active Directory password requirements in each field, you will receive a message stating the password does not adhere to the college password policy.
