Description

This article explains how new students, staff, and faculty complete their first-time sign-in to an SLCC account. It includes retrieving your SLCC email address, creating your password, setting up Microsoft Authenticator, and accessing SLCC services.

Before You Begin

Your SLCC account must be created before you can sign in. After your application or employment has been processed, you should receive a Welcome email from helpdesk@slcc.edu at the personal email address associated with your SLCC record.

The Welcome email contains your SLCC email address (BruinMail for students).

If you do not see the email, check your Inbox, Spam, or Junk folder.

You will need:

  • Your SLCC email address
  • Access to the personal email address associated with your SLCC record
  • A mobile phone or another supported method for Microsoft Authenticator (Multi-Factor Authentication)
Tip: If you cannot locate your Welcome email or do not know your SLCC email address, retrieve it at Retrieve Your Username.

Complete Your First-Time Sign-In

1. Go to the MySLCC portal.

https://my.slcc.edu

2. Sign in using your SLCC email address.

  • Students: username@bruinmail.slcc.edu
  • Staff and Faculty: username@slcc.edu

3. Select Forgot My Password.

This option allows first-time users to create a password and existing users to reset a forgotten password.

4. Verify your identity.

Follow the on-screen prompts to verify your identity using the available verification method.

5. Create your new password.

Your password must:

  • Be at least 15 characters long. Longer passwords are recommended for better security.
  • Meet at least three (3) of the following requirements:
    • Include an uppercase letter (A–Z)
    • Include a lowercase letter (a–z)
    • Include a number (0–9)
    • Include a special character, such as ! @ # $
Tip: Create a password that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess. Avoid using your name, username, Student ID, email address, birthdays, or other personal information.
Example strong passwords:
  • MountainSky2026! — 16 characters
  • CoffeeTable#172 — 15 characters
  • PurpleRiver!852 — 15 characters
Note: These are examples only. Do not use these exact passwords. Create your own unique password.

6. Save your password securely.

Before submitting your new password, make sure you have a secure way to store it. Consider using a trusted password manager, such as 1Password or LastPass.

7. Set up Microsoft Authenticator.

After successfully creating your password, Microsoft will prompt you to configure Microsoft Authenticator.

For detailed instructions, see Setting Up Multi-Factor Authentication at SLCC.

Important: Microsoft Authenticator setup is required. Your first-time sign-in is not complete until you finish this security setup. Until it is complete, you may not be able to access MySLCC, classroom computers, Microsoft 365 applications, or other protected SLCC services.

After Your First Sign-In

After your password and Microsoft Authenticator setup are complete, you can use the same SLCC account to access:
